ANCIENT CHINESE PHILOSOPHY IN PRISON

I was reading Tao Te Ching, written by Lao Tzu over 2500 years ago, and it’s pretty amazing how applicable some of it is today. One of my favorite verses said to treat all of your problems as opportunities, and that is the quickest way to having no problems at all. What a great edict to live by in prison! For years I’ve tried to look at adversity this way. Some Christians do the same, although they tend to think the adversity is a test from God, and/or a way to get closer to Him. I don’t see it. As I always try to point out, good advice, wisdom, morality … these things are valuable in of themselves, with no need to appeal to Bronze Age deities or supernatural forces. They are human values.
