NEGATIVITY IN PRISON

It’s a no-brainer that prison is full of negativity. But I’ve always found that nearly all of it comes from individuals. It comes from the way they view everything, the things they value, the self-entitlement that leads prisoners to think that they deserve this or that. And it’s easy to get into that mode, where everything is about you and everything bad that happens is a direct affront to you. That’s how most of these guys in here think, unfortunately. But this kind of negativity is not inevitable. It doesn’t HAVE to happen. Each one of us in here can try to do our part to reduce bad thinking habits and, above all, be fair and objective. And many times, that involves criticizing ourselves. But it’s necessary for growth.
