Visiting In Prison

I was talking to a friend of mine this morning at work in the kitchen. I remembered that he had told me he had never had a visit from his mother since he came to prison.
Why? Because she is an undocumented immigrant and is here ‘illegally’. I do realize that many people are opposed to the problem of immigration, and why should someone in prison be allowed to visit with someone who is here illegally.

Because that is his mother, or in some other case son, daughter, father, brother, sister, wife or husband. Why do we want to separate family from each other any more than we already are by the mistakes that we have made to place us here behind these walls.

My solution of which I am going to begin a propsal to Olympia and D.O.C. Headquarters and officials, is that if they are unwilling to look at allowing them to visit, then they may be allowed to utilize the JPAY and have ‘Video Visits’ with there families.

Currently this is not allowed because policy states that a person is not allowed to have video visits without being on the inmates approved visting list.
So I believe that this needs to be reviewed to help inmates maintain a support system, and contact with their loved ones.
Because in the end, my friend is getting out of prison, he is not an ‘illegal’ immigrant he was born here in the U.S. and he will be returning to the community. It would be better if he had a family to go home to.
